Hi guys

i'm posting a night pic with excess tungsten lighting thus the orange/yellow glare due to improper camera white balance selection. It ideally should be warm white/natural blue. any workflow in photoshop 7.0 to repair/correct images like this?

Hi Sean,

There's actually a small problem when this image is corrected - it becomes too dark. At the moment the red channel is pushed so far that it's actually making the image brighter, when we correct this colour imbalance the image gets darker because that red channel is being reduced.

The colour cast was fairly easily corrected (at least mostly corrected) by using the Colour Balance tool in Photoshop and using the settings shown here for the highlights, mid tones and shadows:

There's a lot of red naturally in the image so the whites will probably never really appear totally white in a night shot, but the colour cast is basically corrected. I assume this was shot JPEG? Shooting RAW gives the best possibilities for colour correction in editing but you should still be able to get fairly reasonable results working from the original if it was shot JPEG. Try making correcting the colour the very first thing you do, then adjust the brightness rather than the other way round.

Maybe give this another go using colour balance settings based around these and see how you get on. :)

Hello friends!
Take the challenge of trying to see if I can better help his friend Sean, and try to learn something new, unfortunately in my airport base and you can not take photographs of this type. I had wanted to try the editing.
The first thing I did was duplicate the layer
Adjustments-Curves and then I started playing with the dropper, first black, then white and finally gray.
Then flatten the image, make a new curve fitting but only shadows, hue saturation and brightness and contrast are bigger.
attach all layers and gave a noise reducer and something sharp.
I think that would be acceptable to perform the editing? I just did not convince me is the tail area am very overexposed.
I estimate that the original can be much better and if you are in even better raw
